Eye Injuries Should Have Halted Vax Program
The Covid-19 injections are causing serious eye damage. Scientists don’t know why. Please help us spread the word and crowdsource effective treatments.
Editor’s Note: A Substack reader agreed to let me share her husband’s personal story of injury on the condition that she and her husband remain anonymous.
Bill is a software engineer for a large defense contractor in Los Angeles. Like many workers in the U.S., last fall his company gave him an ultimatum: Get vaccinated or get out.
Bill’s wife, Beth, was adamantly opposed. She did not want the experimental jab for herself or her husband. She tried to dissuade him. “I went to the vaccine center with him, and up to the very last minute I said, “You don’t have to do this,” she said.
Beth was unable to talk her husband out of getting vaccinated. He had been feeling pressure to conform from all sides, including not just his employer but family and friends. Along with most of his colleagues, Bill chose to take the jab rather than lose his job.
Within eight hours of his first dose of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine, Bill was experiencing double vision in his right eye. He hoped it might be temporary. For the first several days he coped as best he could, covering his eye or closing it when working and driving.
Unfortunately, it was not temporary. Five days later his visual disturbance was so severe that he ended up in the emergency room.
An ophthalmologist with Kaiser Permanente diagnosed his condition as nerve palsy. The doctor told him she had no doubt the condition was caused by the vaccine. She said she had seen a lot of nerve palsy since the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine program, although usually after the second dose, not the first.
The doctor advised Bill not to get any more doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. She agreed to write a letter to his employer to exempt him from further injections. She also instructed Bill to wear a patch over the affected eye for three months, during which time she expected the eye to heal.
That was six months ago. Bill wore the patch as directed, and his eye improved. Then in February his double vision returned. He suffers from it to this day.
In the interim, Bill has been forced to fight for his medical exemption. The ophthalmologist who diagnosed his condition and agreed to write him an exemption quickly reneged. Apparently, her manager at Kaiser said that because nerve palsy was a known side effect of the vaccine and was not life-threatening, doctors in the company were not permitted to write exemptions from further shots for patients with this injury.
Bill appealed the decision, and eventually Kaiser relented. The company said Bill could receive an exemption but only for three months while his eye was healing. Then he would have to submit to a second dose, knowing full well that the nerve palsy likely would return and that an even more serious reaction was possible.
Kaiser never followed through with this limited exemption. Thankfully, Bill eventually obtained a full exemption from a doctor outside of Kaiser. This one had no time limit attached to it.
(My attempts to obtain clarification from Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles regarding its vaccine exemption policy were unsuccessful. A representative from Kaiser took my call and listened to my questions. She promised to get back to me with answers but never did.)
Bill did not get a second dose and did not lose his job. His company approved his exemption on the condition that he wear a mask at work and submit to weekly testing for SARS-CoV-2.
But the prognosis for his right eye is now uncertain. Since the eye did not heal in the time frame expected, no one can tell him when or even if his eyesight will return to normal.
Bill is not alone. Adults and children in the U.S. and around the world who took these experimental injections have suffered profound disturbances to their vision. Scientists are not yet able to pinpoint the mechanism, although some hypothesize that these injuries are autoimmune-mediated.
There were no warnings from Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson that the Covid-19 vaccines could cause serious eye damage. Yet, the documented eye injuries from these vaccines since their rollout have been numerous and varied. In addition to nerve palsy, they include:
Superior Ophthalmic Vein Thrombosis: A normally rare condition that can be life-threatening. It is caused by venous congestion and may include painful protruding eyes, swollen eyelids, impairment in motility, and vision loss.
Acute Anterior Uveitis: Eye inflammation affecting the middle layer of tissue in the eye wall of one or both eyes. Warning signs often come on suddenly and worsen quickly. They include eye redness, pain, and blurred vision.
Acute Macular Neuroretinopathy: A normally rare disorder characterized by the sudden onset of a unilateral or bilateral island of relative or absolute vision loss within 10 degrees of fixation. It is often characterized by wedge-like macular lesions. There is no treatment, and the visual prognosis is variable.
Central Serous Retinopathy: A degenerative eye condition in which fluid builds up under the retina, leading to potential vision problems and blindness.
Optic Neuritis: An inflammatory, demyelinating condition that causes acute visual loss, usually in one eye. The condition is typically associated with multiple sclerosis but is now appearing in people who received the Covid-19 vaccine.
Some scientists who have reviewed case studies of these vaccine-induced eye injuries insist they are rare. They also note that vaccines for other viruses can cause eye damage. For example, uveitis has been documented with the vaccines for Hepatitis B, HPV, flu, BCG, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), and chicken pox. In addition, many viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, are known to cause vision problems themselves in a subset of patients.
Risk vs. Benefit
The fact that other vaccines can cause eye damage is hardly a selling point for the Covid-19 vaccines. I personally would not be willing to take any vaccine that I knew carried even the slightest risk of harming my eyes. My vision is that important to me. I assume many others feel the same. Our lives and livelihoods depend on our vision. We would rather rely upon antivirals like HCQ or Ivermectin to reduce the risk of viral complications than take a vaccine that could cause those same complications.
Moreover, a search of key terms in the CDC’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) suggests that the number of eye injuries from the Covid-19 vaccines far exceeds that of any other vaccine. Roughly one-half to two-thirds of all eye injuries recorded in VAERS since the system was launched in 1990 may be connected to the Covid-19 vaccine. In some cases, the proportion is even higher. For instance, from OpenVAERS:
· a search for “uveitis” turns up 932 cases for the Covid-19 vaccines out of 1,360 for all vaccines combined since 1990. Example:
· a search for “ophthalmic vein thrombosis” turns up 139 cases for Covid-19 vaccines out of 142 for all vaccines combined since 1990. Example:
· a search for the key word “blind” results in 1,963 cases for Covid-19 vaccines out of 2,193 for all vaccines combined since 1990. Example:
A study conducted by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care found that, far from being an overestimate of vaccine adverse events, the VAERS system captures only one percent of all injuries.[1] Many doctors and public health officials, citing no evidence, have disputed this finding. They dismiss the VAERS data as unreliable because the system is voluntary and patients often report their own injuries.
However, the VAERS naysayers have never offered any alternative. There is no centralized database, for example, in which all vaccinal eye injuries are recorded and tracked. Nor have researchers published any studies attempting to quantify these injuries. Somewhat ironically, Kaiser Permanente Northwest published a large study in December 2021 of vaccine-induced myocarditis and found it to be far more frequent in young males than what the CDC was estimating.[2] Kaiser has yet to publish any large studies of eye injuries from the Covid-19 vaccines, even while it denies exemptions for patients who suffer these injuries.
Without a reliable way to track vaccine injuries, the public has no way of knowing how many eye injuries are occurring, how severe those injuries are, or to what extent they are responding to treatment. We have no opportunity to weigh the true risks of vaccination relative to any claimed benefits. Informed consent is not possible in this situation.
For these reasons, the Covid-19 vaccines should have been pulled from the market many months ago. If ethics still played a role in public health, the program would have been halted at the first sign that vaccine recipients were suffering serious injuries not flagged in the clinical trials.
Too Little, Too Late
Belatedly, scientists now are planning a multicenter study of eye damage from the vaccines. They also intend to look at potential biomarkers.
From “Ophthalmology and Therapy”:
“Implementation of a dedicated ophthalmic registry or establishing an ophthalmic division of existing registries for compilation and profiling of cases will further deepen our understanding of comorbidities associated with ocular COVID-19 infection and vaccination.” [3]
In the meantime, Americans continue to play Russian roulette with their own eyesight as well as that of their children. Each jab increases the risk of a serious injury.
Beth, who remains unvaccinated, cannot believe what she and her husband have been through.
“I tried so hard with Bill,” she said. “His family pressured him. His friends called him immoral. He loves his job and does not want to lose it. I also had to come to terms that he was entitled to make his own decision.”
She continued: “I feel sometimes like I am living in this weird dream and can’t wake up...Some of my neighbors cross the street now when they see me. Others tell me they love me but I must wear a mask around them…I try and point out the parallels to what has happened in the past, and they just can’t see it. It is like a mass brainwashing has occurred…I feel very abandoned by those on the left that should be fighting this and are instead encouraging it. But I think there are a lot more of us than we know.”
